I moved out with almost nothing. I lived in a van to make it work, so I won’t pretend there’s a trick that skips the saving. But when people say they have no money, they usually mean they don’t have enough yet, and that gap is often smaller than it feels.
Start by working out the real number instead of an imagined one. Add up the actual move-in cost plus a small cushion. For a lot of first places it comes in lower than expected once you stop assuming you need a fully furnished apartment on day one. Then close the gap from both sides: cut your two biggest current expenses, and put anything extra straight toward the number, whether that’s a tax refund, a side job, or selling something you don’t use.
What got me there wasn’t a big paycheck. It was knowing the exact figure and chipping away at it every week.
