Most move-out checklists cover boxes and tape but skip the part that decides whether it works, which is money. Here’s the order I’d go in.
Start by knowing your number: move-in cash plus about two months of expenses as a cushion. Next, get your paperwork ready, since a surprise on your credit report or a missing pay stub can sink an application. Then line up the essentials you need the first night, not the whole apartment at once. Set up utilities and renter’s insurance before you move in rather than after. And once you have the cushion, leave it alone, because that money is what keeps you in your place if something goes wrong.
The packing is the easy day. Getting the money right is what keeps you from moving back a few months later.
